To Better Your Marriage With Communication
More here: How to better your marriage
In the movie theatre we watch the fairytale ending in happy marriage and give it little thought as we step out into the light of day, yet marriage is an ever growing and changing bond. Communication is a wonderful key to better your marriage and hand in hand with empathy you can look forward to a lifetime of companionship.
Conflicts within a marriage are the leading cause of marital discord and divorce, but conflict can actually help you to better your marriage! How people approach, deal with and solve a conflict can bring them closer and strengthen the bond between them.
The most useful tool in being able to better your marriage is the ability to empathize with your marriage partner. When a conflict arises being able to key into the other person’s view point helps you to understand how they feel and why they are reacting to the situation in the way that they do. Once you can empathise, it makes it easier to resolve the conflict in a constructive and peaceful manner.
Listen to what your partner has to say when they are unhappy or conflicted about something. To better your marriage it makes sense to try to understand, from an emotional viewpoint, why your partner is unhappy and what it is that has caused this feeling or conflict in the relationship. In future, you can curb this sort of behaviour or situation. It helps to realize that this approach works from both sides of the relationship.
Always try to take a positive approach to conflicts. Be calm, state your feelings clearly and try not to be confrontational. No one enjoys having their faults picked out or enjoys being shouted at or made to feel inferior. Always keep criticism constructive and keep the conflict in the present tense. Rehashing old issues will not assist in clearing up the present conflict.
A good way to better your marriage is to discuss your feelings rather than your partner’s failings. If something they have done has upset you, rather than pick on the action, explain how the action made you feel and why. This is a wonderful tool in resolving conflicts as it highlights your standpoint without breaking down your partner.
When you try resolving a conflict always pick a positive compromise that benefits you both, rather than taking on a lose-lose approach to the scenario. Taking an imbalanced solution that benefits one partner and not the other is also likely going to lead to further conflict, so try to compromise in such a way that both parties benefit.
On a regular basis, plan some quality time together to assess how your relationship is progressing, especially with regards to conflict resolution. Plan a nice dinner and enjoy an in-depth discussion with your loved one. This is always a great way to better your marriage and may well bring you even closer.
